4/23/08 vs Frontier
Kevin McCrossin and Troy Myren pitched 6 solid innings; Josh O’Donnell, Broznan Kraus, and Josh Latta supplied the offense, as the varsity baseball team took an early lead. The Cougars held on to defeat Frontier 8-7.
The JV baseball squad dropped their season opener to Frontier yesterday. They found their energy late in the game but could not get past the Falcons. Keep up the intensity men and be ready to take it to Bethel.
4/30/08 vs Curtis
The Cougar JV Baseball Squad brought their intensity with an 8 to 3 win over division rival Curtis Junior High yesterday afternoon. “Pee Wee” Rhyse Zenkner ignited the Cougar ferocity with an ESPN Top 10 diving catch behind first base in the first inning. Josh Broom pitched a scoreless 5 innings with 5 strike outs before handing the ball over to Gage Rosbach who found his grove to shut down Curtis in the 7th. Dustin Brennan and Josh Broom lead the Cougar offense with 2 hits apiece, while Dalton O’Neil, Nick Swanson, Gage Rosbach, Mark Treneer, Chris Glahn and Rhyse Zenkner added their hits and RBI's for the win. Good game, men! Keep up the intensity!
The varsity baseball team lost to an outstanding Curtis squad. Austin Greene, Kyler Tobias, Tyler Stevens, Kevin McCrossin, and Troy Myren contributed to the offense. Next up Spanaway on Friday.
5/2/08 vs Spanaway
The Cougar JV Baseball Squad announced their presence with authority in their Friday home opener against Spanaway with a 13 to 2 victory . Dustin Brennan lead the charge, pitching a complete game giving up only 2 hits in 5 innings with 6 strike-outs against the Warriors. Gage “Mr. Ray Charles” Rosbach was the “King of Swing” with 2 doubles, 2 runs scored, and 2 RBI’s for the Cougs. “You skay-Ishee Ger Oh” added a hit, 2 runs scored and 2 stolen bases to the Cougar offensive onslaught. Great game, men. Now let’s take it to Bethel.
The varsity baseball team played well on Friday.
There was daring base running: Kevin McCrossin recorded his first career steal of third base; Josh O’Donnell scored on a safety squeeze and a great hustle play ; Jared Baldwin was inches away from pulling off a straight steal of home, on the front half of a tope’ suicida (Toe’ pay Suey see da).
There was good glove work displayed by Conner Harkness, Josh O’Donnell, Troy Myren, and Josh Latta.
There was timely hitting provided by Mitchell Brock.
There was also good pitching: Troy Myren pitched a solid 4 innings against a good hitting Spanaway nine.
Kevin McCrossin, the angular righty with the horizontal knuckler, pitched well in relief closing out the game by striking out the Warrior’s best hitter.Final score: Columbia 8, Spanaway 5. Great job! Up next Bethel-today
5/6/08 vs Bethel
Broznan Kraus, Jared Baldwin, Troy Myren, Kevin McCrossin, Josh O’Donnell, and Josh Latta all contributed to the offense. Conner Harkness and Broznan Kraus were stellar on defense. Jake O’Donnell pitched a complete game 3 hit shutout as the varsity baseball team defeated Bethel five-zero. Great Job! Next up-Cedarcrest at home on Wednesday.
The Cougar JV Baseball squad played perhaps one of their best games so far this season before officials called it quits after 8 innings with the score tied at 7. Bethel chipped away at the Cougs before the Cougar bats erupted in the 3rd inning to tie the game. From there on it was an all out slug-fest. Josh Broom and Dustin Brennan pitched selflessly as the Cougar defense rallied behind them. Nick “The Squeeze” Swanson had two unassisted put-outs to 2nd base from behind the plate that shut down Bethel’s running game. Mark Treneer led the offense with a single, double and an RBI. Dalton O’Neil and “Pee Wee” Rhyse added to the Cougar offense with two runs scored. Great game, men! Keep on the hustle!
5/7/08 vs Cedercrest
The JV baseball team maintained the momentum in defeating Cedarcrest in a marathon contest.
“Pokey” Rhyse Zenkner led the offensive onslaught with 3 hits in 6 at bats, scored 3 runs, and drove in a run. Josh Broom had 3 hits in 7 at bats, scored 3 runs, and drove in 2 runs.
Nick Swanson collected 2 hits in 5 at bats, scored 4 runs, and drove in 2 runs.
Ethan Salley contributed a stand up double to ignite a big 2nd inning.
Yusuke Ishiguro(You skay-Ishee Ger Oh) added a hit in 2 at bats and scored 2 runs in a big 7th inning rally. Nick Swanson and Andrew “The King” Kang put in excellent glove work on defense.
Chris Glahn, Mark Treneer, and Dustin Brennan combined to strike out 10 Cedarcrest batters.
Final score 21-15. Great game, men. Keep up the intensity.
Broznan Kraus pitched a one hit shutout through 4 innings with 4 strike outs as the Cougar Varsity Baseball squad defeated Cedarcrest 4 to 3. Kevin McCrossin closed the books on the Chargers with 5 strikeouts in the last two innings for the win. Kyler Tobias executed a perfect suicide squeeze to get the Cougs on the board and spark the offense. Josh O’Donnell, Troy Myren, Connor Harkness, Josh Latta and Tyler Stevens each added to the Cougar offense for another win on the season. Nice job, gentlemen.
5/9/08 vs Cougar Mountain
Close the books on the Columbia JV Baseball squad! It’s over! The Cougs down 7 runs against the undefeated Cougar Mountain baseball club could never surmount a seven run deficit! Or so the naysayers spoke! Conspired to give their coach a coronary heart attack, the JV baseball squad did just that; surmounting a 7 run deficit in the last of a short game to go on to an 11 to 10 victory. Kyler Tobias, along with Josh Broom and Dustin Brennan hurled their way to victory with a combined 5 strike outs. Dustin Brennan, Mark Treneer, and “Pee Wee” Rhyse Zenkner added to the offensive onslaught that gave the Cougs enough edge to pull off the win. Andrew “King” Kang gave the go-ahead run with selective hitting in the 6th. Way to go Cougs! Great game! Now let’s take it to Frontier!

5/12/08 vs Frontier
The Cougar JV Baseball squad suffered a tough loss against Frontier yesterday. Austin Greene, Yusuke Ishiguro, and Dalton O’Niell each added a hit behind Dustin Brennan who had two hits and an RBI. Mark Treneer played a solid defense which included a shoe string catch in left to stop a Frontier surge. Tough game, men. Let’s regroup today and get fired up for Bethel on Wednesday.
The solid pitching of Broznan Kraus and Troy Myren combined with timely hitting paved the way for a 14-6 win by the varsity baseball team.
