SCORES AND REPORTS

4/23/08 vs Frontier

Despite falling behind early the Varsity Fastpitch team never gave up, not allowing Frontier to score again.  The Cougars slowly reduced the lead before tying it in the 5th inning with a 2 rbi hit from Melissa Guthrie.  The Cougs had a chance to win it in the 6th inning but fell short.  With the score tied they went to extra innings.  Frontier loaded the bases with no outs, but magnificent pitching from Lauren Jennings meant they didn’t score.  Then in the bottom of the 8th, Natalie Star drove in the winning run. The whole team contributed to this outstanding win.  Well done girls.

4/25/08 vs Bethel

The Varsity Fastpitch team continues to show excellent pitching and defense in their game against Bethel on Friday.  Taylor Lytle again making a high-light reel catch in center-field.  Unfortunately our hitters could not match this performance against a dominant Bethel pitcher.  Our record is now 1 – 1.

4/30/08 vs Curtis

The Varsity fast pitch team had an offensive explosion yesterday, having 27 at bats in only 4 innings on their way to a 10-0 victory over Curtis in less than an hour.

JV fastpitch lost a close game last night with Curtis.  With great hitting by Jordan Zumach and Allyson Lindstrom the Cougars came up a bit short.  Good Luck on Friday ladies!

5/2/08 vs Spanaway

The Varsity fast pitch team played another excellent game on Friday against Spanaway.  The Spanaway pitcher was dominant, recording 16 stikeouts in 7 innings.  However, the Cougars defense was every bit as dominant when they were on the field.  The Cougars took the lead when, after fouling off numerous pitches, Taylor Lytle's solid single drove home Allyson Lindstrom.  Spanaway tied it on an inside-the -park home run, that the Cougars defense played so well that there was a play at the plate which just went against us.  We had an opportunity to win the game but the Spanaway defense stood firm.  In the bottom of the 7th inning Spanaway finally got two hits in an inning to push home the winning run.  Our next game is Wednesday at CJH.

5/7/08 vs Cedercrest

Despite another excellent fielding performance, the varsity Fastpitch team fell short yesterday losing 5-1 against Cedercrest.

The JV Fast Pitch team won an outstanding game against Cedarcrest with great catching by Allyson Lindstrom with awesome throws to second and third for outs, great hitting by Sara George who went 4 for 5 and great pitching by Jordyn Zumach with 10 strike outs. Great job ladies!

5/9/08 vs Cougar Mountain

It was a rollercoaster ride of emotion for the Varsity fast pitch team against Cougar Mountain on Friday.  The Cougars came out of the gate hitting, building a seven run lead after just three innings.  However things went quiet after that, and coupled with an unexpected drop in defensive performance allowed Cougar Mtn back in to the game as they scored 14 unanswered runs!  Then in the last inning, with the entire team hanging on the fence wildly cheering every at bat, Columbia staged an improbable come-back.  Batter after batter found ways to get on base and when all was said and done the Cougars had scored an amazing 11 runs to pull off a dramatic 18-14 win!

JV won 5-1

5/12/08 vs Frontier

The JV fast pitch team continued their winning streak yesterday beating Frontier 4-1.  Jordyn Zumach led the team with great pitching striking out 13 of Frontier's batters. Way to go ladies!

It was defense as normal when the Varsity fast pitch team played Frontier yesterday.  Hayley Eklund, Taylor Lytle and Ayana Hawk all made fine outfield catches, Erica Dines turned a number of infield defensive gems and Melissa Guthrie tagged out two girls at third.  Buoyed by Fridays hitting explosion the Cougars hit the ball with authority, giving their best hitting performance of the year, with Lauren Jennings and Taylor Lytle both reaching base three times.  However the Cougs again found themselves down as the 7th inning started.  Could they come back again?  A seven run deficit was quickly cut down and the Cougs brought the tying run to the plate but unfortunately fell just short, losing 10-8.

5/14/08 vs Bethel

The V fastpitch team played undefeated Bethel yesterday.  They showed great improvement on their previous performance against them, but Bethels pitcher was again dominant.  The Cougs only allowed 2 earned runs and had an outfield assist in a put out at 3rd and executed a superb pick-off and pickle play.  Our last home game is next Wednesday so come out and cheer us on.

5/19/08 vs Curtis

The varsity fastpitch team played a textbook game against Curtis yesterday.  Lauren Jennings pitched 7 innings of 2 hit ball.  The offense scored early, added on often, and had runners on base 6 of the 7 innings.  When Curtis did threaten, Erica Dines had a diving stop and threw out the runner to prevent a run scoring.  Alyssa Keller had a great running catch and successfully ran out of a pickle to score a run.  Final score Columbia won 5-0.  Our last home game is this Wednesday vs Cougar Mtn.

5/21/08 vs Cougar Mountain

The Varsity Fastpitch team finished on a winning note by beating Cougar Mountain 12-2 in 6 innings yesterday bringing our overall record to 5-5.  We had a great season and played a lot better than our final record suggests.  A reminder to the girls that if you did not turn in your uniform yesterday that you need to do so ASAP and that our banquet is next Wednesday at 3.30pm.

The JV Fast Pitch won their last game of the season yesterday beating Cougar Mountain 18-2.  Once again Jordyn Zumach led the team with great pitching and Allyson Lindstrom made some great defensive plays as catcher.  Great season ladies!
