9/12/08

The Varsity football team lost a close and exciting game last Friday.  The offense was led by Josh Latta, Miles Woods and Tom Jensen.  Several terrific defensive stops for loss were made by Ricardo Echaniz and Ethan Salley recovered a 4th quarter fumble to give our team a chance to win.  Well fought Cougars.

9/25/08

Yesterday, the 8th grade football team lost their first game of the season to an opportunistic Bethel team.  The Cougars drove the ball to the 10 yard line twice, but just couldn't find the end zone.  Cody VanBrocklin and Chase Sturmer both had a good day running the football.  The Cougar defense was tough all day with Chase Farley, Chris Gibson, Steele Johnson, and Bronson Fox leading the way.

The Varsity football team lost to a talented Cougar Mtn. team.  Joe Moore, Garrett Anderson and Miles Wood played tough on defense.  Our next game is Thursday here at home against Spanaway.

 

10/2/08

The varsity football team lost a close game to Spanaway.  The Cougars played hard and did not quit.  Touchdowns were scored by Miles Woods, Josh Latta and Rhyse Zenkner.  Defensively Peter Sutherland, Joe Moore and Andrew Kang played tough.   We also had two fumble recoveries.  Way to hit Cougars.

 

The 8th grade football team lost a heartbreaker in overtime to Spanaway Lake yesterday 20 - 14.  Trailing 14-6 at halftime, the cougars limited Spanaway's offense to one play the entire second half before scoring on a Cody Vanbrocklin halfback pass to Antonio Avina with about 1 minute left in the game.  In the first overtime, the cougars drove it inside the 20 yard line when on a 4th down play a tipped ball at the line of scrimmage was intercepted and returned 80 yards for a touchdown.  Playing well for the cougars was Hayden Holster, Delton Revius, and Chase Farley. 

10/8/08

Yesterday, the 8th grade football team beat Cedercrest 12-0 on the turf at Surprise Lake.  The Cougars scored first on a 15 yard Andrew Waltner to Rubin Shinderuk pass down the middle.  Cody VanBrocklin score the other touchdown on a tough 3 yard run.  The cougars ran the ball well all day behind the offensive line play of Steel Johnson, Dominic Dutra, Chance Farley, Hayden Holster, and Tommy Mathews.

10/9/08

Yesterday, the 8th grade football team beat Cedercrest 12-0 on the turf at Surprise Lake.  The Cougars scored first on a 15 yard Andrew Waltner to Rubin Shinderuk pass down the middle.  Cody VanBrocklin score the other touchdown on a tough 3 yard run.  The cougars ran the ball well all day behind the offensive line play of Steel Johnson, Dominic Dutra, Chance Farley, Hayden Holster, and Tommy Mathews.

10/16/08

Columbia Cougar Varsity lost a nail-biter to Cedarcrest 7 – 6.  The team never quit.  We scored with about one minute left in the game, but could not convert on our point after touchdown attempt.  Come support the Cougars at our last game against Spanaway on Thursday. 

 

Yesterday, the 8th grade football team beat Curtis in a thriller 30 - 22.  Cody Vanbrocklin scored first on a 50 yard touchdown run behind the solid blocking of Scott Rhodes, Hayden Holster, Steel Johnson, Chance Farley and Dom Dutra.  With the game tied in the 4th quarter, Chase Sturmer broke a tackle and ran 60 yards down to the 5 yard line.  Two plays later, Sturmer punched it in for the game winner.  Also playing well were Jesse Erickson, Tommy Matthews, and Andrew Waltner.

10/22/08

Yesterday, the 8th grade football team finished out its season with a 16-8 win over Curtis' white squad.  The Cougars scored on two long runs from Chase Sturmer and Cody Vanbrocklin.  Tommy Matthews, Jesse Erickson, and Scott Rhodes came up with some big plays on defense to keep Curtis out of the end zone in the second half.

Columbia Cougar Varsity lost a close and exciting game yesterday afternoon to Spanaway 14 – 18.  Our touchdowns game on a 30 yard pass from Josh Latta to Mark Traneer and a 63 yard run by Rhyse Zenkner.  The team showed a lot of poise as we drove the length of the field with only a couple minutes to go, but an unfortunate fumble stopped our drive.  Joe Moore and Andrew Kang led the defense with numerous tackles behind the line of scrimmage.  Great effort Cougars.
