  • Gummy Bear Lab - the focus of measurement is Density.
  • Formal write-up (75 lab pts) - Final copy is due Monday 10/6

  • Problem - What will happen if a gummy bear is left in water overnight?
  • Hyposthesis - If... then... because... statement
  • Procedures - should reflect what's being measured and should include quantitative measurements
    - Include before and ending measurements
    - Show day one and day two procedures
  • Material list - minimum equiptment used
  • Data table - yes, your report should include your data table!  The title should reflect what's being measured and the columns should show the manipulated and controlled variables, as well as before and after observations.
  • Gummy Bear analysis questions

    • What had the greatest change ~ volume or mass? Explain why?
    • Was there a change in density? Explain why? Remember to use your findings as support
    • How do your results compare to those of your classmates?
    • Now it’s your turn to change a variable to create a new question for a new experiment?

    Do your best work! This assignment would be a great assignment to use in your C.O.W. to represent what you do in science at your student led conference in the spring.

  • Life Skills with Mr Clergy - This is an alcohol/drug prevention/education curriculum with several support modules which addresses self-esteem, decision making, peer/media influences, etc. 
  • Observation Homework - Due Today

  • Read - to - write
  • Oultine by turning the heading into questions... Important info is the bulleted items answer the question
  • Include any labeled diagram to help with concept
  • Draw and label fig. 8 include captions
  • Review questions 1 - 4 answer questions on a seperate piece of paper - complete sentences

  • 1. Explain how energy travels through an ocean system to help Earth maintain a heat balance. Use terms from your notes (conduction, radiation, and convection)
  • Explain how a system is different from a cycle.  Include an example as support (Be sure to include how energy is transfered between a cycle and a system.)
  • Why does Matter... matter?
  • Fill in the blank notes

  • Write 2 paragraphs about how your collage represents you as a system

Team task- each team will be assigned a 'sphere'... as a team they have to identify 'what occurs' within the sphere. 

  • Describe possible events within the sphere. 
  • Brainstorm how an event has an effect on other spheres. 
  • Produce a team poster representing their newly discovered information.

  • In 2004, an 4,800 gallon oil spill covered parts of the Puget Sound.  Write an Earth System Analysis describing how the event has affected each sphere and how the spheres have effected another.
