Global Warming Project and Presentations
Global warming is a serious challenge facing our world today, while the issue may be under constant debate, it is an issue everyone can help with. In order to decrease human influences regarding global warming and climate change, one must understand how we add to greenhouse gases. Everyone can make a difference in reducing emissions of heat-trapping gases (especially carbon dioxide). To help students become informed individuals in regards to global warming issues, our culminating project for the climate unit was to research the effects of global warming as a way to recognize when a slight change occurs in one place… that change ripples through all aspects of Earth.
Essential Question: “How do you think Global warming could affect Earth as a system?”
As a class, students brainstormed how global warming is possibly affecting the five “spheres” of our planet (biosphere, geosphere, hydrosphere, cryosphere, and atmosphere). Throughout the brainstorming phase, students were encouraged to look beyond the normal “it will get warmer” scenario. With a learning partner, students then created a poster organizing the “affected” topic under the sphere it was related to. Once students completed categorizing their topics they chose one sphere to focus their research on… then one topic within their chosen sphere… finally, how the “effect” of the topic/sphere affected another sphere. For the final phase, students created presentations to share their findings with the rest of the class. Click on “presentation” to view student work.
