Investigation writing

Investigation rubric

Available materials

  • Heat Lamp
  • 250 watt bulb
  • Ruler/meter stick
  • soil
  • Gravel
  • Water
  • Thermometer
  • Ring stand
  • 250 mL Beaker
  • Clear wrap

When writing an investigation keep the following in mind:

  • What are the controlled variables?
  • Distance from the light source
  • Amount of each material
  • Length of time
  • How often to measure and record
  • How will the data chart look?

 

Planning an Investigation

Introduction

Write down an introduction to the experiment

This should be a few sentence about the objectives of the investigation.

Variables Write down the controlled (kept the same) manipulated (changed on purpose) and the responding variables.

Hypothesis

If... then ... becasue...

What do you think the outcome of the experiment will be.
Explain why you think this will happen.

Materials Make a list of all the things you will need to use. Write down the sizes and amounts of each thing.
Plan Write down everything you will do. Make sure it is in the right order.
Diagram Draw a diagram of the lab setup to help others understand how to do the experiemnt.  Remember to use the proper pictures. Remember to label things if they need it.
Safety Explain what you need to be careful about to do a safe experiment.
Results Table Draw a data table.
