I thought that when we put a gummy bear in water over night that it would erode. Actually, the gummy bear expanded. The volume of the bear went from 2.52 cm3 to 11.55 cm3, that's five times its size! Although the volume and mass increased, the density seemed to decrease because the water is less dense than the gummy bear, thus, making its density less. Therefore, my hypothesis was incorrect.

My hypothesis was that the gummy bear will swell up if it was in a cup of water overnight and I was right. Before putting it in water, the gummy bear was 2 cm long, 1.5 cm wide, 1 cm thick, had a mass of 2.7 g, and a density of .9 g/cm. After putting it in water over night the gummy bear was 3.1 cm long, 2.5 wide, 1.5 cm thick, mass of 8.3 g and a density of .7 g/cm, which means a gummy bear left in water overnight will increase in its mass and volume making it larger. My hypothesis was that the gummy bear would act like a sponge and suck up all the water if left in water overnight, and my guess was right. Before the gummy bear was in the water, it's color was green, length was 2 cm, width was 1 cm, thickness .5 cm, volume 1 cm3, mass 1.9 grams, and a density of 1.9 g/cm3. After the gummy bear was in the water, it's color was green, length was 3.5 cm, width 2 cm, thickness 1.5 cm, volume 6.5 cm, mass 9.8 grams, and its density was 1.5 g/cm3. My findings, related to the purpose, shows that a gummy bear does expand when left in water overnight. Rachel B

My hypothesis was that the gummy bear would expand in the water. My hypothesis was correct, the bear did expand! Before the gummy bear went into the water it was 2cm long, 1 cm wide, and 1 cm thick. After it sat in water overnight it became bigger, its dimentions were 3.3 cm long 2 cm wide, and 1.5 cm thick. The length was 1.3 cm difference, the width was 1 cm difference and the thickness was .5 cm difference. The gummy bear changed in size a lot overnight. Connor W

In conclusion, my hypothesis of "if I put a gummy bear into water overnight, I think the gummy bear will disolve, because it is made of sugar and sugar disolves in water" is inccorrect. Before I put the gummy bear into water, the length was 2.1 cm, the width was 1.4 cm, and the thickness was 1 cm. After I put the gummy bear into the water, the length became 3.6 cm, the width became 2.3 cm, and the thickness became 2 cm. As you can see, my hypothesis, was wrong becasue the gummy bear expanded. That's what happens when you put a gummy bear into water overnight. Taylor Lytle
