and will
sight read.
III. Students will analyze and describe musical elements
of
diverse genres,
and stylistic periods.
IV. Students will improvise and compose using standard
compositional techniques.
V. Students will relate music to history and culture,
to the
other arts,
and to other "core"
disciplines.
VI.
Students will give two juries - graded recitals at
the end of
each quarter.
Grading
I.
Participation (daily grade) - 3 pts/day: includes
participation
in class
activities, such as playing, listening, and writing. You
will not
be judged against other students regarding the rate
at which you
learn to play the piano. Learning this skill is
more variable from
student to student than learning
academic subjects. Try not to
compare yourself to other
students in the class. Students are
expected to participate
in
all class activities, whether performing
with the group,
in
small groups, or alone; individual
practice; listening;
reading;
or writing.
II.
Tests and Quizes - 100 pts each: Includes announced solo
performances and written evaluations
of progress.
III.
Quarter Final - 200 pts: Your performance will be a piece
based upon your individual progress
Missed
Work
I.
If you are ill, make sure that you are caught up with
assignments in class. This
may include written assignments
and/or tests. You
are given one day for each day missed to
make up missed work.
