Teacher Bio

Mrs. Aker grew up in Tennessee and got her B.S. in biology from the University of Tennessee in 1995. She has also lived in Hawaii and California.  She began her teaching career in 1998 in California at J.L. Stanford Middle School.  It is here where she met her husband.  Together, they moved to Washington state in 2001.  Mrs. Aker is starting her fourth year at Columbia, and is currently working on Master's degree in science education at Walden University.

Mrs. Aker has 2 dogs, 2 cats, and 5 ferrets.  She is also a published poet.
