The Egg Drop--2006

Ah, the proverbial egg drop project.  Students are given a list of accepted materials and size requirements, and they create containers that would protect a raw egg from impact.  Containers were dropped from the top of a set of outdoor bleachers (measuring approximately 3 meters tall), and students were scored on the resulting condition of their egg.

In addition, students were required to include force diagrams with their project (see previous force diagram examples), a scaled drawing of their container, and a paper relating their container to Newton's three laws.

Containers awaiting their fate:

Students fearing egg destruction:

In some cases, the outcome wasn't immediately obvious.....

In some cases, the outcome was VERY obvious.

In the end, many students successfully defeated gravity, normal force, and pressure:

...and after all of the mess was cleaned up.....

...it was time for more physics learnin'

Congratulations 9th graders from Mrs. Aker!
