Read and Lead

Important Information, Directions and Reminders

Sign the contract and return to school. Your child will be issued a special Read and Lead bag. Book bags are filled daily by PTA volunteers.

Completed time sheets may be returned in your child's book bag, and we will send a new sheet home. Time sheets may also be picked up from your child's teacher, outside of room 112, or printed from this website.

Read as much as you wish, however, only 10 minutes a day (weekends and holidays too!) will be counted as Read and Lead credit. Time is kept in increments of 100, therefore time sheets should be returned only when the total minutes read by the child equals 100 minutes.

Read and Lead runs in three sessions, 400 minutes each. Dates are listed on the time sheet. Each child who has read 400 minutes in a session will be invited to a special party at the end of that session. Parties are usually held at recess time. At the end of the year, all children who have read 400 minutes in each session (for a total of 1200) will be invited to a special celebration.

If your child's bag is returned without a book, we will send a note home in the bag. No new books will be sent until the old one is returned.

There is a $2.00 bag replacement fee for lost bags. The book replacement fee is $4.00.  The bag and book must be returned at the end of the year.

If you have any problem with a book (too hard, too easy, etc.) please feel free to return it with a note. Remember, you can always read books from home or the library for Read and Lead credit.
