Us
Fife School
District is located east of the City of Tacoma in the Puyallup Valley
in Washington State. The district includes three cities -- Fife with
a population of 2,860, Milton with a population of 5,000, and a portion
of Edgewood. The district also includes the unincorporated areas of
Trout Lake, Jovita, and Fife Heights. A part of the Port of Tacoma
is included in the district.
There is
easy access to the district from the Fife/Milton exit #137 off Interstate
5, between Tacoma and Seattle.
The district enrollment is approximately 3,400 students. The district has seven
schools:
- Fife High
School, grades 10-12, Principal, Mark Knight
- Columbia
Junior High School, grades 8-9, Principal, Jeff Nelson
- Surprise
Lake Middle School, grades 6-7, Principal, John McCrossin
- Endeavour
Intermediate School, grades 2-5, Principal, Jody Hess
- Hedden Elementary
School, grades 2-5, Principal, Julia Grubiak
- Discovery
Primary School, grades preK-1, Principal, Julie Bartlett
- Learning Opportunity Center, grades 10-12, Administrator Jeff Short
Because
of its attractive location and extensive single and multiple dwelling
units, many residents live in the district but work in surrounding
neighborhoods, towns, and cities. There is a large suburban community,
a smaller but important rural element, and a growing commercial center.
The patrons
of the district approved a four-year maintenance and operations levy
in February of 2002 with a 65.58% yes vote. This is indicative of the
community support for our district.
Within the
last nine years the district has built new primary and
junior high schools, remodeled the intermediate, middle, high, and
alternative schools, and updated
the support facilities (bus/maintenance and administration building).
In February
2000 the patrons of the district approved a $35,000,000 bond for the
construction of Alice V. Hedden Elementary School that opened in September
2001, and Columbia Junior High School that opened in the fall
of 2003.
The district
continues to make the success of each individual student its highest
priority. Selection of quality staff is an integral part of this success.
