MINUTES OF THE REGULAR SCHOOL BOARD MEETING BOARD ROOM

 

CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Board of Directors of Fife School District No. 417 was called to order at 7:00 p.m.

ATTENDANCE Board members present were Larson, Sutherland, Colburn, and Wolfrom. Rob Rueber was excused. Administrators present included Bob Corley, Steve McCammon, Marti Harruff, Brian Aiken, Chuck Silvernail, Bob Bunge, Jeff Short, Jeff Nelson, Dennis Bolz, Jill Palmquist, Mick Spane, Jody Hess, Julia Grubiak, Rich Williams, Keith Mars, Chuck Ziara, and Bob Woolery. Recording Secretary Heidi Joyner was present. Others present who signed in included Sue Grab, Mark Adams, Jackie Nelson, Arlene Salamone, Yvonne Owen, Elisa Ponder, Jesse Bjurback, Kelly Wood, Pat Bourasa, Norma ?, Bob Brett, Mary Fore, Julianna Reed, Lisa Parente, Patty Killcup, Elaine Smith, and Sherri Smith.

EMPLOYEES OF THE Presentations for Employee of the Year were given as follows:

YEAR Classified: Fife High School - Julianna Reed; Surprise Lake Middle School - Pat Bourasa; Endeavour Intermediate School - Colleen Johnson; Discovery Primary School - Cheryl Rowley; Transportation - Nick Gratzer; ESC/Maintenance - Sang Won Jeon

Certificated: Fife High School - Sue Grab; Surprise Lake Middle School - Kirk Dodge; Endeavour Intermediate School - Jackie Nelson; Discovery Primary School - Jeanne Berg.

District Employees of the Year were announced as follows: Classified - Pat Bourasa; Certificated - Jeanne Berg.

All employees of the year were presented with a gift in recognition of their selection.

STANDARD-BEARER Steve McCammon gave an update on the Standard-Bearer Network

UPDATE 2000 project.

GRADES 2-5 After presentation of the information by Marti Harruff, motion made by

MATH ADOPTION Wolfrom, seconded by Sutherland, and unanimously carried to adopt the math curriculum materials for grades 2-5 from McGraw Hill as presented.

SCHOOL TO CAREER After a presentation by Shelly Calligan, Fife High School Career

SUMMER ACADEMY Counselor, motion made by Colburn, seconded by Wolfrom, and unanimously carried to approve participation in the Bates School to Career Summer Academy.

CAPITAL FACILITIES Motion made by Colburn, seconded by Sutherland, and unanimously

PLAN carried to approve the Capital Facilities Plan as presented.

FISCAL REPORTS Brian Aiken reviewed the budget status reports and investment report.

 

APPROVAL OF PAYROLL Motion made by Wolfrom, seconded by Sutherland, and unanimously

AND VOUCHERS carried to approve vouchers and payroll as follows: General Fund, Warrant No. 65105 through 65311 in the amount of $225,388.08; ASB Fund, Warrant No. 7460 through 7511, in the amount of $22,720.81; Capital Projects Fund, Warrant No. 2232 through 2252, in the amount of $836,714.61; and Payroll, Warrant No. 83219 through 83372, in the amount of $1,492,071.95.

ENROLLMENT Enrollment was reported at 2941 (2797.80 FTE) for the month of May.

CONSTRUCTION REPORT Chuck Silvernail gave an update on the construction projects.

CONSENT AGENDA By unanimous consent, in the absence of any objections, the consent agenda was approved as follows:

DONATIONS Motion made by Sutherland, seconded by WolfRom, and unanimously carried to approve donations as follows: Notebooks/binders (valued at $500) from Crowley Marine to SLMS; $50 from Costco to FHS Fastpitch; $798 from Fife-Milton Rotary to FHS Music Department; $250 from Fife-Milton Booster Club to FHS for Volleyball/Basketball State Competition; Periodic donations from the US Postal Service of unclaimed items (i.e. books, CD's).

 

START DATE OF SCHOOL Motion made by Colburn, seconded by Wolfrom, and unanimously carried to set the start date for school for the next two years as follows: 2001-2002 - September 5, 2001 and 2002-2003 - September 4, 2002.

 

ADJOURNMENT At 9:48 p.m. there being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
