GUIDELINES FOR FOOD IN SCHOOLS

 

The safety of our students is of great importance to the district.  As a result, these guidelines have been put into place in an effort to create as safe an environment as possible for students with food allergies and to protect students and staff from food borne illness’ and disease.  Information romp the Pierce County Health Department was use din creating these guidelines.

 

  • During regular school ay or activities, any and all home-made or home-prepared food items are prohibited.

 

  • Commercially prepared food items brought to school MUST BE individually wrapped.  If they are not, they are prohibited.  The individually wrapped items must remain wrapped until served.

 

  • Food for evening events for parents/adults is not limited.  If students attend with their parent, they are considered under the responsibility/authority of the parent.

 

Allergy specific concerns (i.e. peanut allergies) should be addressed individually in a student/staff health plan.  Diet restrictions must be physician approved.  The completed plan must be communicate to all appropriate staff members.
