Frida Kahlo ~Las Dos Fridas~
“My painting carries with it the message of pain.” Frida Kahlo When Mexican painter Frida Kahlo was only 6 years old, she became bedridden with Polio. She found 2 things to keep her company during that lonely year- one was drawing and the other was her imaginary twin friend "Frida". She combined the two in her painting "Las Dos Fridas" which she painted when she was 32 years old. The fourth graders challenged themselves with their introduction to figure drawing. They even sketched from a live model. (See photos below.) We worked through angles, proportion, perspective, etc. in order to draw a figure and ultimately, a twin figure.
