Jazz Paintings

inspired by the Harlem Renaissance

The 4th graders had quite the challenge in this assignment. Not only did they have to draw some very complicated musical instruments, but then they had to visually communicate the concepts of Jazz music in their painting. The results were fantastic. The thoughtfulness and care that each student put into their painting was evident in the quality of work. For me, the feeling of our time together felt much more like an art studio than an art classroom. The students became artists during this project. What a great finish to our time together!
