Coil Bowls from Clay

Our 5th graders used the traditional method of working with clay coils, but in a non-traditional way!  We used a plastic bowl as a mold.  Our coils became spirals, stripes, braids and twists as we added them to the sides of our bowls.  To join the many pieces together, we smoothed the clay on the inside, but left the designs on the outside.  After a week the bowls were fired, we glazed them and fired them again.  They look great!
