Coil Pots in Clay

Our 5th graders used the traditional method of working with clay coils, but in a non-traditional way! We used a plastic bowl as a mold.  Our coils became spirals, stripes, braids, twists and letters as we added them to the insides of our bowls.  To join the many pieces together, we smoothed the clay on the inside, but left the designs on the outside.  After a week the bowls were fired, we glazed them and fired them again.  They look great!
