Art is everywhere, except it has to pass through a creative mind. (Louise Nevelson) Louise Nevelson was a Russian-American sculptor. As a child, she spent a great deal of time at her father's workplace- a lumbermill. Without a doubt this must have influenced her choice of materials as an adult artist. Nevelson used scrap wood to create her box-like sculptures.
A few of the 4th graders accepted my Winter Break challenge of creating a Nevelson-like sculpture at home. Brooke and her dad went all out! They constructed a wooden box, painted it white and then used foam-board and hot glue to create the sculpture. She even made a display board to accompany the work of art. She titled the piece "Dimension of Snow."
Asia created a paper box and then used scrap paper to create a collage inside.
Savannah used white index card to make her boxes. She drew designs on the back wall of the boxes and also created miniature free-standing sculptures for the inside.
