Homework Policy
We will be assigning homework because we believe it is important that students develop good homework habits in the elementary grades. Also, homework affords the student an opportunity to practice skills they have learned in class.
We expect the students to do this work independently and ask for help only after they have given it their best effort. Homework will cover only material that students have already been taught in class.
One important component of each child's homework is independent reading. Students are expected to read 20 minutes a night and record their effort in their spiral agenda book. As a parent, your task is to monitor that students do their independent reading assignments and then to sign at the bottom of the assignment page in the agenda book, or the weekly reading log.
About 40-60 minutes should be set aside for homework Mondays through Thursdays. On rare occasions, homework may also be due on Mondays. You can monitor your child's work by checking their agenda book. These books should go home each night. Progress reports will be sent home once a month. These must be signed and returned promptly.
Students are encouraged to complete assignments on time. Late assignments will be accepted ONE DAY LATE. After that, the assignment will not be accepted for credit. If there is a legitimate reason why a student is unable to finish an assignment, a note from the parents would be appreciated.
Please praise your child's work. We believe that parents' words of support are the single most important way to motivate children to do well in school.
Sincerely,
