Homework is important for reinforcing the skills we are learning in the classroom. Homework also helps students develop positive study habits and independent work skills. You can expect about 40-50 minutes of homework Monday - Thursday. This includes the 20 min. of reading for Read and Lead, math homework and spelling practice.
Planners: We will continue to use the spiral bound planners to keep track of our daily and long term assignments. We do write in our planners daily and I do stamp it. A stamp indicates that I have checked to make sure the homework assignments have been written on the planner and that the homework is in the binder behind the correct divider tab. The planners are to stay in the binders for the entire school year.
Math: Students will be given an assignment Monday through Thursday that is related to our daily lesson. Sometimes the homework is from our math text book and sometimes it is a worksheet. We always write our assignments in our planners, and we use the following notations: "pg. #" = this assignment is from the book "P4-1" = this assignment is a worksheet "R4-1" = this assignment is a worksheet Read and Lead: I will be reading with the students this year-- can you (students) read more minutes than Ms. Haines??? Weekly Spelling Assignments: Work due on Thursdays Monday: Receive new list and write each word two times. Tuesday: Write spelling words in a sentence(s). Underline the word(s) in each sentence, and each sentence should have at least five or more words including the spelling word. Yes, you may use more than one spelling word in the sentence. Wednesday: Spelling Pre-test -- if you get 95% or better you do not have to take the test on Friday! If not, you will write each misspelled word 5 times and turn in with Mon. and Tues. work. Thursday: Turn in all spelling work, and study the words for the test on Friday. Friday: Final test for those who did not get a 95% or better on Wednesday.
