Teachers in the third grade have found that students who participate in Accelerated Reader (AR) improve the greatest in reading.
This year students are required to read and accumulate 3 Accelerated Reader points per month. Yes, they can and should read more.
Points are given for passing AR tests and can range from .5 to 7 points per book. Chapter books are worth more points than picture books.
Students should choose books from the middle to the top of their reading range. Most students who challenge themselves by reading at the higher end of their range show greater improvement. Students choosing to read at the lower end of their range have stayed the same or even lowered their reading level.
I will send home Student Record Reports that will show how your child is performing on AR.
