Odd and Even |
|
Teachrkids (Click on number basics on the left, then odd & even #’s). This website is a quiz where students count objects and then decide whether the answer is odd and even, it corrects the student if the answer is wrong.
Ghost Blasters Odd- This is a very fun game where students click on the ghost that has the odd number. If they click the wrong ghost there score goes backwards.
Ghost Blasters Even- This is a very fun game where students click on the ghost that has the even number. If they click the wrong ghost there score goes backwards. |
Understanding square numbers |
|
Odd Numbers Think of a number then square it. Subtract the number you first thought of. Is the number you’re left with odd or even? All skill levels.
Various Venns This can an online activity or printed for classroom use. Students are given a list of numbers that are place on a Venn Diagram under the heading of Square Numbers, Odd Numbers, or both. All skill levels.
Cycling Squares Use a pre-listed set of numbers, students problem solve to use the numbers in a circle to find square numbers. Advanced skill level.
Two Primes Make Square Numbers Students explore their knowledge of prime numbers to make square numbers. All skill levels. |
Composing and decomposing numbers |
|
http://illuminations.nctm.org/LessonDetail.aspx?ID=L118 Students explore the take away model of subtraction in several different contexts (counting, sets, number line, balanced equations, and inverse of addition) using pasta shapes. They also decompose numbers and explore both the zero property and the relationship between addition and subtraction.
|
Factors |
|
Factors and Multiples Game Explore factors and multiples with this game. Familiarity with factors and multiples of numbers up to 100 can be developed whilst learners explore strategy. There is plenty of opportunity for extension and challenge.
The Counting Game A game for practice speed of skip counting (multiples). |
Place Value |
|
Emanipulatives at Eduplace-This website has a lot of emanipulatives including Place Value. Excellent for modeling for kids and having kids create numbers using manipulatives.
Shark Numbers at ICT Games-This website is a game where students choose numbers up to 29 or 59 and count the tens and ones to identify the number, if they are correct they see a dolphin, if they are wrong the shark eats the boat.
Life Guards at ICT Games- This website is a game where the students have to count by tens then ones to save a person.
Place Value Pirates at MrNussbaum - This website is for end of third grade and fourth graders. A clue is given that a number is in the tens, ones, tenths, or hundredths place. The student must click on the pirate that has “the 2 in the tens place”. The next rounds get increasingly more difficult. |
Greater than less than |
|
One False Move through Funbrain –One False Move a game where you pick the smallest number on the board until you clear it.
Crickweb (Click on the game Compare Numbers)- Compare numbers using the greater than, less than or equal to, you can change the difficulty
Number Assembly through Aha Math - This is for second and third graders. It gives directions in the game and has a story. Students then choose which hundreds number is larger.
Order Numbers through Aha Math- This is for second and third graders. It gives directions in the game and has a story. Student then order numbers least to greatest. |
Composite and prime numbers |
|
Two Primes Make Square Numbers Students explore their knowledge of prime numbers to make square numbers. All skill levels.
Various Venns This can an online activity or printed for classroom use. Students are given a list of numbers that are place on a Venn Diagram under the heading of Prime Numbers, Even Numbers, or both. All skill levels. |
Rounding |
|
Rounding Game-This is a quick rounding website for second or third graders where there is a number in a shell ex. 27 and the students have to decide to round down to 20 or up to 30. There are several questions on a page.
Half Court Rounding at MrNussbaum- Students choose how difficult a question they want then round the number. The man then shoots a basket if they get the correct answer. Can be two player, second player goes after first player runs out of time.
Rounding Practice- Quick practice that explains rounding and students choose the best answer. |
Computational Fluency: count, sequence, subitize |
|
The Counting Game A game for practice speed of skip counting (multiples). Primary level
Math Lines This is game for practicing addition facts the equal 10.
Make 15 Play against the computer add numbers to make 15.
Subitizing:
Counting Fish This is very primary, but would be useful for introducing the idea of subitizing.
*Ten Frame This student interactive from Illuminations presents four games that help students develop counting and addition skills. Each of the games uses a frame of ten. Primary level.
*Moon Cakes Students are shown three different squares with dots and they must select them in descending order to earn points. Primary level.

Spatial Reasoning |
|
Space Station
A fun game for developing spatial awareness. Students are asked to build robots by fitting different shapes into a given outline.
Count the cubes (volume)
Different quantities of cubes are presented. Students must determine the correct number of cubes used for the total shape. |
Visualizing numbers |
|
Give a dog a bone- Students are given a blank hundreds board and they have to find 10 numbers in 60 seconds.
Division Machine This game has 3 levels starting with very basic division (no remainders).
Arithmetic Game – This game creates multi step problems using addition, subtraction, multiplication, division.
Quick Math – In this game students must choose whether addition, subtraction, multiplication, division will correctly solve a given problem.
Math Magician Games This game is strictly math fact practice (multiplication, division, addition, subtraction).
|
Relate numbers in non-traditional (algorithms) ways |
|
Euclid’s Game (needs Java to run) For this game students play the computer. They are asked to find the difference of two different numbers. They cannot use a difference that is already on the board. As the game gets going, the options narrow.
The Chaos Game (needs Java to run)
Chaos game (improve geometric intuition and algorithmic thinking) Must have teacher taught instructions before students can use this game successfully.

Addition: combine quantities |
|
http://coolmath4kids.com/addition/07-addition-lesson-scratch-01.html This is an alternate way of adding long numbers without “messing up.” This has the participant write the problems down on their own piece of paper and work along with the screen. I like this and would use it for my class.
http://oswego.org/ocsd-web/games/mathmagician/mathssub.html This is a site where you can go and do basic subtraction, addition and subtraction. The students enter their name. Students are timed on a set of answering facts.
http://www.funbrain.com/cgi-bin/mb.cgi This can be used for addition, subtraction or multiplication. It’s not a “high energy” screen game, but it is a good game for practicing basic facts.
http://www.coolmath4kids.com/addition/02-yardstick-addition-lesson-02.html TThis is a basic game where a yardstick is laid on a flat counter and a student rolls a die and places the game piece on that number. Then, the die is rolled again and the student moves the number of spaces indicated by the die. Two students could interact with this. A variation might be to start at the 36 and subtract, based on the number rolled on the die.
Math Mayhem A game of speed, the faster you are with your facts, the points you score.
Spacey Math A game of speed, the faster you are with your facts, the points you score. |
Subtraction: take away, difference between |

http://www.oswego.org/ocsd-web/games/SpeedGrid/Subtraction/urikasub1res.html
Speed Grid Challenge- Students fill in the problem ___ - ___=15 and have to come up with the numbers. This is a timed game but the students get to choose how many problems they want to do in so many minutes.
http://oswego.org/ocsd-web/games/mathmagician/mathssub.html This is a site where you can go and do basic subtraction, addition and subtraction. The students enter their name. Students are timed on a set of answering facts.

Multiplication |
|
Learning3.com (find following games through this site)
Multiplication chart - This game teaches how to use a multiplication table. Students practice until they feel they have the skill down.
Pet Rescue - Fun multiplication practice for intermediate and advanced students. This game would work well with a partner.
