Music Grades-A Parent Guide

  1. Parents/Guardians are a student's first and most influential teacher.
  2. Student's attitude toward learning most often reflects what they have learned at home and from past experiences.
  3. Music Grades are a reflection of student's choices and achievement, not their learning ability or intelligence.
  4. Every Student can learn and be successful in music at their own pace if they choose a positive attitude, show effort, and do class and home activities to the best of their current abilities.
  5. Music Grades are earned not given.
  6. Engagement, attitude, and effort play a large role in a student's learning experience and are reflected in the grading process.
  7. The grading scale for music at Endeavour does not equate with standard letter grades.

The Grading Scale is:

+        Mastery of current objectives and Essential Academic Learning Requirements (EALR's) being studied.

S+     Student has not mastered the current objectives and EALR's, but is exceeding normal expectations.

S       Student is performing at expected level on current objectives and EALR's.

S-      Student has not shown expected understanding and synthesis of current objectives and EALR's.

-        Student is demonstrating poor attitude, engagement, and effort toward the current objectives and EALR's

I am here to provide a safe, engaging learning environment for your student. I want them to succeed and learn. If your student's attitude and behaviors lead you to believe this statement is false, then SOMETHING IS WRONG! Please do not hesitate to contact me and please do not let the situation continue in hopes that it will resolve itself. I have not chosen teaching as a profession  for the last seventeen years to make students fear or hate music or the learning process. I am eager to work with you to help your child succeed. A Master Teacher I once had told parents, "I will only believe half of what I hear about you if you will extend the same courtesy to me."

Your child is important and together we can make a positive difference!
