Music Class Expectations Summary:

  1. Music Education at Endeavour is a required subject for all students. This is mandated by Federal Law (Title V, Part D, subpart 15 (section 5551, 2002) and State Law (RCW 28A.150.210).
  2. Students are taught in a class environment and are expected to follow school rules. Students are invited, not forced, to participate and are graded upon their achievement of musical objectives and their engagement (participation) in classroom activities. Click here for a full explanation of grades.
  3. Students are required to be respectful of the learning environment whether they choose to participate or not, and if they choose to disrupt the learning environment, they will be removed from class and asked to create a plan for improvement. This plan will be their "ticket" back into class. If a student continues to disrupt the learning environment, the parent and student will be required to meet with the music teacher and the principal to revised learning behavior plan. This process is to ensure your student has the greatest opportunity for success. Click here for the complete discipline policy.
  4. The music schedule creates extended breaks between class sessions. To help develop good work habits, and to practice and review classroom learning, music activities (homework) are sent home on a frequent basis. Some need to be returned, others are for music making and enjoyment with friends and family. The activities should take the student no more then ten minutes a night. If the student procrastinates or forgets until the day before the next music class, it could result in up to a forty minute time commitment. I encourage all students to get into a regular habit of doing a little at a time each day.
