Some Ways to Help Your Child in Math

    1. Keep a positive attitude.  Instead of saying “I was never good in math.” Say “Let’s try to figure this out together.”
    2. Use flash cards together to help your child learn basic math facts.
    3. Skip count by 2’s, 3’s, 4’s etc.  This will help with multiplication.
    4. Practice counting money and making change.
    5. Cook together and have your child measure or double ingredients.
    6. Fractions:  talk about parts of a whole.  How many pieces in this pizza?  What fraction is that?
    7. Practice telling time, and figuring out how much time has passed.  How many minutes until our favorite TV show?
    8. Play games together:  cards, rummy, Monopoly, chess, checkers, Uno, Battleship, Yahtzee, Dominoes, Connect Four, Chinese Checkers, Tic Tac Toe, Life etc.
    9. Play number games in the car:  Add or multiply #’s on license plates,  make a 1 using two numbers (3-2=1), count red cars, practice math facts with numbers you see.
    10. Sports:  keep track of scores and statistics.
