6:00 - 9:00 PM

The Kids for Kenya Club is proud to be hosting this Global Youth Service Event with support from a State Farm Good Neighbor Service Learning Grant and a Summit Uniserve Council Community Outreach Program grant.

This event will begin at 6:00 PM with a formal program featuring Peter Gishuru, President of The African Chamber of Commerce, Melannie Cunningham, Associate Director of Admissions at PLU and Coordinator of Multicultural Recruitment, A Kenyan Children's Group and Naomi Kimani, (Kenya's 2006 best new youth talent songstress) will be singing, Hedden Elementary's Drum Ensemble will perform, and there will be an African flag parade.

From 7:00 - 9:00 PM there will be many activities for attendees to participate in and presentations to listen to.  Some of these activities and presentations are listed below.

An inter-active Kenyan daily-living exhibit showing what rural life is like in Kenya.

Eva Abrams from the Seattle Storyteller's Guild will be telling African tales.

Kunle Oguneye, Nigerian author, will be reading his soon to be published children's book called "Sikulu & Harambe by the Zambezi River"

A local Kenyan children's group will be presenting a PowerPoint

Sister Baptista Kaoma will speak about Zambia

Others will be sharing information about Cote d'Ivoire, Kenya, Lesotho, and South Africa

Chai (tea) presentation and serving

Kenyan baskets presentation

Student presentations:

* The importance of empowering women and the significance of this as it relates to the United Nations Millenium Development Goals

*  Microfinance

*  Heifer International

*  Country life vs City life in Africa

*  The One Laptop Per Child program

*  The Spider Weaver - A Legend of the Kente Cloth will be read. 

*  Excellent Development's 2007 film "Walking on Water" will be presented. This film show Kenyan self-help community groups at their best.

Donations for Shammah Academy, a Kenyan primary school, will be gratefully accepted at this event.
