ATTENDANCE

Absences

A student’s attendance has been identified by parents, students, faculty, staff, and administration of Fife High School as a basis for grading. Students missing more than 1/3 (30 minutes) of any class may be considered absent. The final semester grade for students with seven (7) or fewer absences will not be altered.  Students will have one percentage (1%) point deducted from their final grade for each absence greater than seven (7).  A student with 13 absences in any single class in a semester will be denied credit for the course.  The student should remain in class for the opportunity to learn.  Students may also have the opportunity to appeal the loss of credit. (See Appeal Process).

School sponsored absences in curricular, co-curricular activities, or absences authorized by school personnel will not count toward the 12 allowable absences.  This would include school-sponsored field trips, school counselor appointments, administrator appointments, and suspensions.

Attendance Consequences

  • Absence #1 - 7                        No loss of credit
  • Absence #8+                          1% per day   (8 days equals 1%, 9 equals 2%...)
  • Absence #13                           No credit or an “F” for the class

Tardies

It is the expectation of all students that they go directly to class and be present when the bell rings.  Students who fail to do this on a consistent basis, or students who do not bring a note from an administrator or teacher, will be considered truant, and disciplined accordingly.

Tardy Consequences

  • Tardies #1 – 3                             No loss of credit
  • Tardies #4 and above                .5% loss of credit on overall class grade for each tardy  (ex. - #4 = .5% loss, #5 = 1 % loss)
  • Tardy #7                                     Teacher referral to office
  • Tardy #15                                   Student may be dropped from the class with an “F” grade
