WAYS TO MAKE UP CREDITS

 

  • Pass your FHS classes!

 

  • Fife High School summer credit retrieval program to make up ONLY 1 credit in either a math, English or  social studies class failed at FHS.  Students must apply and space is limited.  The credit retrieval program typically is Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 am -12, June -July.  Cost is $75 ($50 reduced lunch, $25 free lunch).  Students can get an application and more information in the counseling center in May.

 

  • Attend summer school.  Local summer schools include: Federal Way, Puyallup, Auburn, and Tacoma.  Call each district for more information and registration.

 

  • Red Comet.org 1-888-730-1101.   Red comet offers  internet based high school classes for $125 per  ½ credit.  Students can sign up anytime and have 1 year to complete their class. Red comet is affiliated with a WA high school so has most of the classes that FHS offers.  More information and to sign up at www.redcomet.org

 

  • Attend Occupational Skills Center (OSC) during the summer for .50 credit.  Cost is approximately $25.  Early enrollment is recommended.  Please call (206) 433-2524, ext 601 for course availability.

 

  • Enroll in Federal Way Internet Academy (253-945-2230).  Cost is about $180 per .50 credit during the summer and about $300 per .50 credit during the regular school year. Calendar matches normal school calendar so kids can only start classes at certain times. Please call the internet academy directly for specific information or you can register  @ www.iacademy.org

 

  • Attend a community college during the summer and/or in the evening and have the credit transferred to FHS. Costs vary (approx. $330 per 5 credit class which is equal to 1.0 high school credit). Classes take about 18 weeks to complete.

 

  • Juniors and seniors may be able to participate in Running Start program at a community college during the regular school year.  No tuition costs, but students must pay for books/fees and provide their own transportation.  Students must pass a placement test to be eligible for this program.  Pick up a Running Start info sheet in the counseling center.

 

  • Enroll in correspondence or internet courses at an accredited school: e.g. Brigham Young University (BYU).  Cost is approximately $100 per .50 credit, plus the cost of books.  Call BYU @ 1-800-914-8931 or go to www.elearn.byu.edu .  You need FHS counselor approval prior to starting the class. 

 

  • Juniors and seniors may be able to earn credit for your after-school job or volunteer internship during the regular school year.  Sign up with Mrs. Johnson.  It will show on your schedule as Work Based Learning.  You must do additional WBL requirements in order to earn credit.  Students can make-up a maximum of 2.0 credits this way.  You must sign up for this early in the semester.
