1980 to 1990

With a new decade came a new activity. In the past A.S.B. week featured skit competition between classes. In 1980, The Cabbage Patch Olympics began. Classes now competed in such athletic events as the three legged race, the pyramid, and tug-of-war.
The Fife Troykettes, the drill team, struggled to find members. The team dissolved in 1982. They had been performing at half-time shows in football and basketball for 30 years.
During the late '70's and early '80's the music and drama departments combined to produce spectacular musicals such as the Music Man and Mame. By the late '80's the focus had switch to jazz. The Jazz Band and Jazz Choir earned many first place awards. Knowledge Bowl was a new addition to the extra-curricular program. The team placed in the top five overall.
FifeHi hired a new principal. In an effort to involve more parents in their child's education, a parent-student switch night was planned. If you attended your child's classes, they got credit for the school day and did not have to attend. This program went over well.
In a 1988 newsletter the following types of clothing were not to be worn to school: short shorts, gym shorts, halter tops, tube tops, bare midriffs, tank tops on boys, or bare feet. Any article advertising alcohol, tobacco products or illegal drugs was prohibited.
Homecoming events included a float building contest between classes and a parade. Following the parade there was a bonfire in the field. The game ball came onto the field via a skydiver, for the homecoming game. Half-time activities began with a fireworks display.(Continue)
