In 1970 Marvin P. Belknap retired after 45 years in the field
of education. He was the principal at Fife High School for 25
years.
His first graduating class (1946)
numbered 58. The class of '68 had 152 graduates. The teaching
staff grew from 12 to 29. A new high school as well as a new
shop/agriculture/music wing were build during Mr. Belknap's reign.
A new grandstand and gymnasium were also constructed.
Belknap helped organize the Seamount league and served as its
first president. He also promoted the amendment, which changed
the classification of high schools from the old "A"
and "B" system to a four-class system.
Of the Fife/Milton community, Belkanp says: "It is closer
knit than most, and because the school is the community center,
school events get a great deal of attention."
Mr. Belknap gave the "Trojan head" wood carved plaque
to the school as a token of his appreciation for his years at
Fife High School. This plaque now hangs in the reception area
of the office complex.
