FHS Teachers Awarded Area Chamber Grants

Kelly McClure and Amy Thompson are awarded Fife Area Chamber of Commerce Grants. Both women teach at Fife High School . They submitted proposals to the Chamber of Commerce following stated criteria.

Mrs. McClure wanted assistance with purchasing additional materials to supplement and enhance the functional academic and the behavioral management components of the Life Skills program housed Columbia Junior High, ages 13-21(this is a secondary education program). The Life Skills program was created to teach students with developmental disabilities functional living skills and work-related skills to foster independence in adulthood.

Kelly McClure received $500 to purchase additional equipment, supplies, and materials relevant to this program. Congratulations to Kelly for seeking to better prepare her students for "life after high school."

Mirror Magazine is Fife High School 's annual literary magazine, produced by students in conjunction with the creative writing class. Mirror Magazine accepts all genres of writing: fiction, poetry, plays, personal essays, humor, literary criticism, biographies and autobiographies, interviews, and foreign language poetry and prose, as well as artwork, photography, and other creative submissions from all students. Mirror Magazine has in the past only been available to students and staff inside the Fife High School learning community.

This year Amy Thompson, FHS English teacher, will supervise this student publication. The monies received from the Fife Area Chamber of Commerce Grant will enable The Mirror Magazine to be bound and printed professionally. A professionally bound magazine can be entered into literary contests, as well as make available to the community.

The grant of $500 will enable The Mirror Magazine to be printed professionally. Congratulations to Mrs. Thompson and to her students for all the hard work they have done thus far in producing the student literary magazine. This magazine is published for sale toward the end of the school year.
