Course Description

Apply desktop publishing techniques and original artwork to produce professionally designed brochures, newsletters, posters, and the Trojan Forum.   Learn professional presentation techniques by creating multimedia slideshows.   Use digital photography and original artwork to design projects such as DVD and VHS designs.   Produce a student portfolio of publications and media projects.   Software programs include Publisher, PageMaker & InDesign, and Adobe Photoshop.   Many projects are completed for our school, community, and local business organizations.   See reverse for specific topics to be covered.

 

Course Requirements

•  Complete all production assignments

•  Complete all layout and design related assignments, quizzes, and comprehension tests

•  Evaluate projects and select "best work" for portfolio

•  Complete Leadership points sheets.

•  Due one week prior to the end of the semester

•  Complete FSD Electronic System Use Agreement Form.

•  Due by the end of the 2 nd week of the semester

 

Course Materials Required

•  Pen or Pencil

•  Notebook Paper

•  Respect the personal space and belongings of others.

•  Positive attitude and strong work ethic.

•  Strive daily to achieve excellence in what you do.

•  No food or drink in computer labs

•  Respect and follow the fife high school handbook and computer use agreements

 

Grading

You will earn points and have projects evaluated using rubrics in each of these areas: Production projects, assignments, student portfolio, and leadership.   Grades updated weekly to Gradechecker ( www.fifeschools.com/gradechecker/index.aspx ).   Grades determined using the following scales:

 

A 92-100%

A- 90-91%

B+ 88-89%

B 82-87%

B- 80-81%

C+ 78-79%

C 72-77%

C- 70-71%

D+ 68-69%

D 62-67%

D- 60-61%

F Below 60%

 

College Credit

Students earning a B or better and meeting the articulation requirements for Pierce County Careers Consortium (www.pc3connect.com ) can obtain up to 8 college credits for taking this course.
