Broadcasting and Advanced Video Students

Skills I expect everyone to have at this point:

*Creating a new project in FCP which includes saving it and setting scratch disks to the correct location.

*Importing video from a tape.

*Importing music in the correct format for FCP.

*Basic editing in FCP. (marking clips, transitions, cuts, key framing, chromakey, titles, adding filters, working with audio)

*Understanding file management.  Where and why all the media you are using in a video project needs to exist in a specified folder.  Moving files between computers, using fhsvideo server, keeping files you are using local.

*Basic Photoshop.  Correct size and resolution for a video still and applying flicker filters when imported into a FCP project.  Why do you have to de-interlace a still you make from video?  Understand the basic tools in Photoshop.

*Working with songs on iTunes.

*Different microphones, their applications, and how to connect.   (shotgun, wireless...UHF and VHF, handheld)  Balanced vs Unbalanced and how to attach an xlr mic cable to a mini-plug cable.  Setting frequencies and signal strength levels on the UHF wireless mics.

*Basics of Soundtrack

*Burning a DVD using iDVD.
