Hands
in Patriotism...
This
was an early project in the semester, right after an anniversary
of September 11. We were focusing on value and using art as
a documentation of history. The discussion began with a simple
question, "What does patriotism mean to you?". Students
brought up the recent Katrina hurricane, the war in Iraq, helping
others, being a marine, support for America, and September 11.
The discussion brought up an important question, 'what do you
do for others?', which is how the lesson turned into a focus
on your hand in patriotism. Some students had personal
stories to share, but it was a subject familiar to us all.
Each artwork represented the artist's response to my question and
it was a way to capture the times we live in today.
During
this lesson we focused on these EALR'S...
