  • The Fife Power Company

The Fife Power Company is the name of our powerlifting team. This whole thing came about from the year 2003 when four of us went to the State Powerlifting Championships in Lynnwood. From there the whole thing just grew and last year we took ten lifters to the state meet and won the State Team Championships. We had 8 State Champions and set 8 State Records. From that group we have 5 who are now nationally ranked. We are members of USAPL - United States of America Powerlifting.

Powerlifting consists of three lifts. They are the squat, bench press and dead lift and they are performed in that order. A lifter gets three attempts at each lift to see just how much they can lift and then the best lift from each is totalled to see who wins in each age group and weight class.

The first group in 2003 consisted of Jake Bolam, Aaron Brown and Shane Glasenapp. Shane and Aaron won their weight class and age group and Shane lifted a school record 501 pounds in the dead lift. The group from 2004 included Ali McWeeny, Victoria Saenz, Chris Bessette, Paul Brewer, Shaun Munsch, Jake Theoharis, Chris Schaefer, Joe Vanaman, Matt Hutchinson and Nick Byram. I also lift with them.

Ali, Nick, Shaun, Chris, Victoria, Joe and Jake were all state champs. Paul was second while still nursing a sore shoulder from football and Chris was second to Joe because they were in the same weight class. Ali, Paul, Shaun, Victoria, Nick, Chris and Joe are all Nationally ranked for their efforts from last year.

  February 12th Results

WOW! The kids had another great day on the platform. They are Northwest Team Champions! The team consisted of Kelsey McFarland, Ali McWeeny, Paul Brewer, Devon Franklin, Andre Bohall, Dave Johnson, and Sean Masters. Jake Afoa was there lifting, but couldn't be counte as part of the team.

Kelsey had an awesome day. She set 4 state records for her age and weight class and was named the Woman Powerlifter of the meet - all in her first meet! Ali won her age and weight class which makes for her third gold medal in three meets. Paul was second based on a formula used to measure lifters according to age and their total. He had an awesome day coming back from last years shoulder injury. Devon tried to make weight at 132, but missed it by four ounces so she had to lift at 148 and did an outstanding job for her first meet (she was also chasing Ali's records). She came home with the silver based on the same formula used in Paul's weight class. Dave, Andre and Sean had a great start in the squat, but missed their three lifts in the bench so they didn't medal, but were allowed to finish the meet out and did very well. All approached PR lifts for them and proved great sportsmen. Their earlier lifts did contribute to the team score so they are just as much a part of the trophy as the others. A great day again for the Power Company!

The Fife Power Company does it again!

Eight lifters went to Seattle on July 9th and competed in the Seattle Summer Classic. SIX were Meet Champions and our second placers got "beat" by their teammate. Kelsey McFarland, Bri Whitney, Ali McWeeny, Devon Franklin, Austin Specht, Drew Sullivan, Dave Johnson and Nick Byram took time in the summer to go show off some more.

There was quite a show going on between Kelsey and Bri in the 114 class as they both traded STATE RECORDS before Bri pulled away for the weight class win. The four records give Fife kids 24 State Records! All that in just two seasons of competitive lifting. Bri was named Best Teen Woman Powerlifter! This was her first meet.WOW!

Ali and Devon competed against each other in the 148 class with Ali getting the gold while Austin (165), Drew (220), Dave (181) and Nick (275) all earned the gold medal in their classes. Drew and Austin were competing in their first meets and lifted just like the experienced kids did on our team - all with confidence and class! The kids just build off each other and keep going. Dave was coming off a huge learning experience from his first meet and he and Drew are (were) partners in the weight room. Nick returned to the platform and did quite well considering his back spasmed on him late in the day.

It was just another great day to watch the Fife kids in action. THANKS kids!

The Fife Power Company Puts on Their Own Show!!!

December 17,2005

And what a show it was! Not only were the kids the team champs for their own meet, but added a few more state records. It wasn't a full powerlifting meet because we wanted our first try to be simple and fast so we stayed with what is called a push/pull meet. That type of meet only involves the bench press and dead lift.

Kelsey McFarland started it off in the 105 lb. class with a bench of 88 lbs. and a dead lift of 204 lbs. Kelsey was once again Best Teen Woman Lifter. Bri Whitney followed in the 114 lb. class and benched 77 lbs. and dead lifted 193 on very limited training. Newcomer Alicia Adams came in at 123 and benched 83 lbs. and dead lifted 259 lbs. for a fine first meet. Next came 8 state record holder Ali McWeeny at 132 lbs. She hit numbers of 110 in the bench and 231 in the dead lift. Newcomer Alison Stewart did quite well in her first meet bu benching 83 lbs. and dead lifting a monster 259 lbs. Taking a weight class jump was veteran Devon Franklin. She decided to jump to the 165 class and ended up setting a new state record in the bench with a lift of 94 lbs. Devon came back with a fine dead lift of 209.

On the boys side we started with newcomer Jeff Collins at 132. Jeff finished his bench with 149 lbs. for a new state record in his age group. He came back to dead lift 209 with a very sore leg. Jeff was followed by newcomer Doug Kohls at 165. Doug had a good first meet also by benching 143 lbs. and dead lifting 303 lbs. Next up was Jeff Krupp in his first meet. Jeff had a hard day in the bench and got red lighted 3 times, but came back in the dead lift to finish strong at 380 lbs.
