In these classes we try to develop our kids overall strength
level and add to it their overall fitness level.
The class involves an aggressive style of lifting and does
take a lot of energy to complete. If a student's work ethic is low
they need to learn right away to make changes to be successful.
Most of the time that works out very well.
Not only do the kids learn lifting technique they learn a
lot about how they can help themselves grow into believing they
can accomplish something they may never have given themselves credit
for. That is a strong component of this class.
Students are also taught how to spot lifters as well as "teach"
some lifters how to do things because they have learned it already.
Safety is a big issue in the weight room!
I use a combination of Olympic styles
and power lifting styles. A person will gain by far more strength
and flexibility with these two styles than other styles. In fact,
it is known that if you use the common gym approach of multiple
reps, light weights and low sets a person can actually experience
a LOSS of strength!
The two styles
used are aggressive and demand aggessive muscular response. For
athletes in the class that is exactly what type of response you
want. By teaching that type of lifting response a person gains and
maintains more strength than they ever thought possible for them.
Along with the aggressive style of lifting comes an aggressive approach
to technique so lifters can achieve the most out of each lift whether
it be a warm up or top end lift. We will also run a 40 yard dash
to measure our new gains a different way. Yes, we also practice
the skill of running and how to improve it.
The
Workouts
The workouts will involve a rotating approach to
exercises. That means that if a lifter comes in on the first day
of the week and starts with a certain exercise/body part they do
not repeat that exercise/body part until later in the week. This
allows for more development by making sure the lifter hits other
exercises before repeating their favorite lift again and begins
to teach them about working weak point areas. This will also allow
for more rest and better results. All the workouts revolve around
the four core exercises.
This system also allows for a hard/ easy approach to working out
once our baseline has been established. No one is allowed to lift
heavy from the get go. They are taught how to work efficiently and
how to build from the bottom up.
The workouts will also include as much variety as is possible in
our time frame. The more variety the muscle is exposed to the higher
level of muscular response we can achieve.
The workouts will also have built in supplemental exercises that
are used to enhance the core area just worked. The students are
taught how to use body parts that have been used already in the
core lift to create balance and response from the muscle. There
are numerous lifts that can be used and by having them try as many
as possible they will learn just which ones fit their specific style
and body. I also emphasize the total development of the
body and not some concept that singular areas take precedence. Too
many times a student comes in thinking they can do stomach stuff
all period and get the classic set of abs they see in ads. It doesn't
happen that way in the human body so part of the workout design
is to have them understand that concept. In fact, our last one minute
of class is called "tummy time" to allow for ab work.
THE
WORKOUTS FOR THE WEEK
OF
APR.4 - APR.8, 2005
Sorry about not posting last weeks workouts. They followed
a routine of hard first day and easy second day to prep for this
week. This week is test week! Ask your kids about how they
did. I think you will all be surprised how much they have improved.Questions?
Do the teacher contact section and get it to me.
