“Painting completed my life.”  Frida Kahlo

When Frida was a young girl, her photographer father introduced her to painting by allowing Frida to paint on photographs.  She probably learned about brush control and color mixing and gained her "artist's eye" during this experimental process.  Our 2nd graders accomplished the same during our first real painting project.  Students chose one of Frida's paintings (Barely visible as it was lightly copied in black and white) to paint.  Color vocabulary, mixing and layering paint while producing a quality product were just some of the concepts that we focused our attention on during this fun and challenging project.

Mixing new colors is one of the highlights of 2nd grade painting projects!
