Coil Bowls in Clay

The 5th graders waited patiently (Actually, they weren't very patient!) until it was finally their turn to create their coveted clay projects.  They proved that it was well worth the wait with their beautiful bowls.  They used the traditional coil method, but in a very non-traditional way.  They lined a plastic bowl with a plastic bag and then built up the sides of their own form with a variety of coils and patterns.  After they smoothed the inside of their own bowl, they lifted it out of their plastic mold and then let the clay dry.  Firing, glazing and re-firing left the bowls shiny, smooth and colorful.
