Frida Kahlo

~Las Dos Fridas~

“My painting carries with it the message of pain.”  Frida Kahlo

When Mexican painter Frida Kahlo was only a young child, she became bedridden with Polio.  She found 2 things to keep her company during that lonely year- one was drawing and the other was her imaginary twin friend "Frida".  She combined the two in her painting "Las Dos Fridas" which she painted when she was 32 years old.

The fourth graders challenged themselves with their introduction to figure drawing.  They even sketched from a live model.  (See photos below.)  We worked through angles, proportion, perspective, etc. in order to draw a figure and ultimately, create a collage with twin figures.

Our large group drawing sessions with one model broke off into partner sketching sessions.

Garrett proves that one must be willing to suffer in the name of Art!!!

Funny how quickly the inhibitions disappear when you are 9 and 10 years old!
