Painting to Jazz Music

inspired by the Harlem Renaissance

The 2nd graders integrated the visual arts with music as they completed their abstract paintings. We began with an introduction to Harlem and to Jazz music of the 20's and 30's. Then, we drew 5 lines as we listened to 5 jazz songs.  These lines gave us some boundaries as we began our paintings.  The students did a great job of creating mini-masterpieces with only the three primary colors.  They mixed colors to add the secondary colors and worked very hard to balance their designs.
