Yesterday was a good visit to my local oncologist's office. My blood counts went up significantly, showing a continued positive response to my last treatment. Actually, this past response is probably the best response I've ever had. All things considered, I am in excellent health. This is all good news as I prepare for transplant. Being in good health and having low amounts of active leaukemia improves the chances of a successful transplant. I am thankful.
Unfortunately, I did encounter a frustrating obstacle yesterday. Blue Cross sent a letter saying they wouldn't cover the transplant. This is not good news. A transplant for my type of Leukemia is a clinical (experimental) trial, so insurance companies don't always see that the procedure is justified. I am not sure, however, why my insurance company would approve a donor search but not the actual transplant? I have put in calls to the appropriate people and am getting the appeal process started. If I am supposed to have this transplant I know God will open the doors to allow it to happen. I just need to pray for a quick and successful appeal of the insurance company's decision. It is important I stay on my scheduled timeline for transplant.
As always, thanks for all the kind and encouraging emails. I appreciate each one of them. Thank you for praying for my family and I. It means so much. Please keep praying, especially for the successful insurance appeal.
