We are blessed to have this view of Mt. Rainier from our home. As I looked
at the mountain tonight I remembered climbing to the top almost fourteen
years ago. It was a very challenging climb. The tough parts I remember were
carrying an eighty-pound pack, the fatigue in my legs as each step sank deeply
into the soft snow, and the physical effects of the altitude. However, reaching
the top was such a great experience. It was absolutely beautiful up there
and I felt such joy in overcoming such a challenge. The view from atop the
mountain was breathtaking.
Despite my determination to make it to the top, I never would have made it
without my guide, Joel. He led the way and encouraged me when I began to tire.
He gave me the encouragement and guidance I needed to make it to the top.
My next mountain to climb is this transplant. I know it will be a difficult,
but I am motivated by the hope of a potential cure of my leukemia and the
opportunity to spend many more years with my family. On this journey I will
look to the Lord to be my guide. He will show me the way and give me the strength
and encouragement I need. I look forward to standing on the top of this mountain,
looking at the wonderful view of a long life ahead.
Today I went up to SCCA for a short physical exam by the blue team doctors
and nurse. Everything looks good. On a lighter note, Doctor Webster and Nurse
Hill had some concerns as to what was between my ears. As you can see by the
picture, careful testing confirmed their suspicions. It looks like we'll need
to add a brain to the transplant list.
My friend Jaime drove me to my appointment
today. Jaime determined that my physical exam was not thorough enough and
offered his assistance. Despite his good intentions, I chose to decline Jamie's
offer to help with the exam.
As you can see by the photos, today was an enjoyable day. Actually, regardless
of our circumstances, we should try and make every day an enjoyable day. 1
Thessalonians 5:16-18 says, "Be joyful always; pray continually; give
thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."
I know I will have rough days along the way, but I am praying that the Holy
Spirit can help me to deliberately find and experience joy everyday, in all
circumstances.
As the saying goes, "Make
it a good day!"
