Noteworthy Changes in HS Transcripts Including Removal of Scholar's Designation
Background
In 2004, the Legislature passed and the Governor signed into law 3ESHB 2195. That bill included the following new state transcript requirements:
“SEC. 101 (8) Beginning with the graduating class of 2006, the highest scale score and level achieved in each content area on the high school Washington assessment of student learning shall be displayed on a student’s transcript. In addition, beginning with the graduating class of 2008, each student shall receive a scholar’s designation on his or her transcript for each content area in which the student achieves level four the first time the student takes that content area assessment.”
Legislative Action in 2006
During the 2006 legislative session, the Legislature passed and the Governor signed into law ESSB 6475. This measure includes changes to the state standardized high school transcript that should take effect as soon as possible at the district level and not later than June 30, 2007. (NOTE: ESSB 6475 takes effect June 7, 2006.) The changes to the transcript are outlined on the next page.
