Grade 6 Science ~ Classroom Policies & Procedures ~ Ms. Clark Attendance: Attendance will be taken at the beginning of every period. Students are expected to report to class on time. Students more than 5 minutes late to class should obtain a pass from the counseling office.
school (speaking with the teacher just before, at lunch, or after school is preferable to class time discussions). We will work out a due date for the missed material. Students are expected to contact a classmate or check online for missed work. Homework: Homework logs are distributed on the last day of each week outlining the learning objectives for the upcoming week. The log may also include worksheet activities or assignments that are due the last day of the following week. Homework log objectives and assignments are usually posted on the classroom website; however, students are ultimately responsible for any homework announced/posted in class regardless of whether it is online. It is expected that homework will be handed in on time, done neatly, and to the best of your ability. Daily Science Journal: Each student is required to keep a composition book specifically for science class. This journal is kept in the classroom for daily access; students are often advised to use notes they’ve recorded in the journal on classroom assignments and assessments. Students who would like to review/study journal content may copy their own journals. Effort: It is expected that all students will take responsibility for and be invested in their own learning. Some effective ways of demonstrating this include asking questions, seeking extra help, studying for test and quizzes, participating in class and putting good effort into work. Following these guidelines, ALL STUDENTS will be successful. Grading: Lab performance assessments, in-class assignments and assessments, and some homework assignments are assessed. All components have equal weight in the overall grade. The following percentage scale will be used: 100-90= A 89-80=B 79-70=C 69-60=D 59-0=F. Materials: Students are expected to bring the following to class every day: a pencil or a blue or black ink pen and his/her agenda. Textbooks: Due to the hands-on/inquiry nature of the course, textbooks are not available/issued. The website provides information and links to sites that support current classroom learning goals. Extra Help: Please ask!!! Sometimes it is impossible for me to tell that a student is having difficulty in class because they often work with partners or in groups and are able to look like they understand what they’re doing. Contacting Me: Please email me if you have any questions; kclark@fife.k12.wa.us. Depending on the nature of the email I will reply by email or call you. If you would like to speak with me by phone, it is best to send an email asking me to call you with the best number and times to reach you. If email is inconvenient you may leave a message by calling 253-517-1300; the office will transfer you to voice mail. |
