Superintendent's Message

Dear Fife School District Community,

Our district is in the position to address both a new bond proposal and a current levy renewal on February 13, 2018. It has been 18 years since our community last had the opportunity to support a bond, and it’s time to renew our current 4-year Educational Programs and Operations (EPO) levy. The EPO levy accounts for 22% of our operating budget. Since the construction of both Columbia Junior High and Hedden Elementary in the early 2000s, the district has seen steady enrollment growth.

At the same time, all of our buildings have continued to show their ages and have increased facility needs, including issues of safety, security and technological infrastructure. Two years ago, the district began the process of assessing our schools’ conditions. The result of that work led us to convene a committee comprised of community members, business leaders, and district staff to research our facilities needs. The group examined current facility conditions reports, safety and security features, capacity numbers for each school, and future enrollment projections for each of the areas that make up the Fife School District; Fife, Milton, Edgewood, unincorporated King and Pierce counties. This led the committee to make a recommendation to our board of directors regarding ongoing and immediate needs of our district.

The bond proposal is the result of this extensive process. In a few weeks you'll be receiving a mailer about both of these proposals.
I ask you to take a moment to review the detailed information contained in this mailer. For further information, please click any of the links below:
My door is open, and I welcome the opportunity to talk with you about the bond, the renewal levy, the process, or the future of Fife Public Schools. Thank you for your continued support of Fife Public Schools, our students, and staff!
