Welcome back to the 2016-2017 school year! Fife Public Schools has had another very busy summer and we are excited to see all the planning and preparation continue to move into action in the schools as the year gets underway.
As we welcome students back into their classrooms on September 1, we are excited to continue the good work that we started last year under our new five year strategic plan. As you may recall, we have identified four goal areas that will continue to guide our planning and work; Academic Excellence, Transition Readiness, Parent-Family-Community Engagement, and a High Quality Workforce. Each of the areas contain objectives and each objective contains the strategies to help us meet our goals. At our summer administrative retreat held in early August, we identified goal area three as a major area of focus in all of our schools for the 2016-2017 school year. The need to develop and sustain high quality relationships with the parents of our students, with our community and everyone who makes up the “Fife Family." This is the key to our success. We truly believe that the quality of our relationships; with each other and with our students and parents, will also define the quality of our students' experiences in our schools.
Additionally, we will continue to set goals to address the academic success of our students, how our students transition from one phase of their educational journey to another and providing our students with the highest quality staff we can hire and retain.
As a reminder, the four goal areas listed above were the result of over 13 focus groups that met and shared their thoughts and insights about their perceptions of our school district. These groups included parents, students, teachers, support staff, building and district level administration, community civic groups, community leaders from our city government offices and chiefs of police from Fife, Milton and Edgewood. Groups were asked to identify perceived strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and to identify possible goal areas and key “take-aways” from the process. The data was collected and converted into a spreadsheet that helped us look at it from a priority standpoint based on commonality and frequency of responses.
As the Superintendent of Fife Public Schools, I am happy with the process and excited about the results. Our five year strategic plan can be found by clicking here. We intend for this plan to be a living document that is continually updated and honed as we grow in our goal efforts. Strategies will continue to be added and recalibrated in connection with our schools’ strategic plans.
To conclude, I hope that you are excited as we are for the 2016-2017 school year! The future of this organization is bright as we work to maintain a first class experience for our students and fully prepare them for career, college and to compete in a global society!
