Substitutes

Substitute teaching can be a part-time job or full-time profession, and you may even want o turn your classroom experience into a career.

We are always looking for qualified substitute teachers. For the 2024-2025 school year, our daily rate of pay for certificated/emergency substitutes is $219.73/day (retired Fife Public Schools employees receive $249.03/day) . Substitute Teacher

A regular substitute teaching certificate requires the same preparation as a regular teaching certificate: a bachelor's degree and a state-approved training program.

If you hold a current WA Teaching Certificate:

  1. Click this linkthen create an account, and apply for the position "substitute teacher." Please note there is a link that will take you to additional paperwork required of substitute teachers.

Emergency Substitute Teacher
An emergency substitute certificate requires a bachelor's degree, but does not require a teacher training program.

If you do not hold a teaching certificate but are interested in substitute teaching in our district, qualifications include:

  • Four year degree from an accredited college or university
  • Experience working with children
  • Submission of fingerprints for a background check is required, if not already on record

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • To apply and be considered, you need to complete an application online for a Substitute Teacher position. The Human Resource Department will then review your application.
